When the body speaks to us
Contractures, skin problems, abdominal and intestinal discomfort, respiratory, dermatological, sexual, and neurological problems that don’t seem to have an organic origin can be messages from our emotional world. Difficulties we are unable to digest find these and other ways out. The body is telling us something, and we must listen. The relationship between body and mind is now accepted, even by orthodox medicine. I would even say the intimate relationship between body, mind, emotions, and spirit. In the field of psychoneuroimmunology, connections have been discovered between negative psychological states and their influence on the immune response.
Our body is closely related to our mental and emotional state. Our repressed emotions lead to the suppression of activity and, ultimately, to the chronic contraction of the muscles that could be used to express those emotions. Whether we repress positive or negative emotions: anger, fear, hatred, joy, frustration, grief, or others. As the most vulnerable areas of our body, I would mention the muscles and tissues surrounding the neck and spine, the face and especially the jaw, the stomach and intestines, the diaphragm as the main breathing muscle, and the pelvic area, which influences the legs. All of these areas of the body that produce sensations that trigger emotional arousal, can have reduced blood supply due to muscle contractions. The mind and its subconscious, when connected to these patterns of tension and contraction, will also provide a path for therapeutic treatment with Craniosacral Therapy and Emotional Release, using tools such as therapeutic dialogue and trauma work.
